Good morning, my name is Mª Carmen as you already know, and this week I have been the journalist!!!
As the journalist of my group, I have to collect everything we have done during this activity. Firstly, I have to say that this task was easy to do and it was really interesting and useful for our future as teachers, so we did it in two days.
- Here you have the presentation I have done for you to see what we have done in a more schematically way: https://view.genial.ly/6090182f93dd640d85baa4f0/presentation-journalist-task-8
The first thing we did was to read the task, the document and watched the videos the teacher said to us and once we had done it individually, we met on Friday the 30th of April in the morning to start doing the task and to share with our peers what we had understood of what we had read. Then, we start thinking about what app we can use to create an online announcement board all together, so at the end we chose Google classroom because it is the most familiar to every student and is easy to use too. So, on Friday we created on Google Classroom a class for each subject in an organized way, for Mathematics we created using the announcement board some posts, such as, tasks, links to videos, some mock exams, that we will prepared for them before doing the real exam, links for the online sessions to keep our students inform. Moreover, we search for some Youtube channels (“Math & Learning Videos 4 Kids”), blogs (https://matecitos.com/inicio-matecitos-4-primaria), and other webpages (https://webdeldocente.com/) to give students more exercises, explanations and more information about the subject to learn in Depth. Furthermore, we also created an English class in which we included the different competences in this subject to achieve different skills. So, for preparing the readings and writings we found some webpages and finally we chose liveworsheets, that is a page in which you can find a lot of exercises of all the subjects to practice, so we gave to them this link https://es.liveworksheets.com/worksheets/en/English_as_a_Second_Language_(ESL)/Reading_comprehension/Bart_Simpson*_daily_routine._kg273757sq to practice and improve their reading and writing skills at home. For improving the listening skill we found another page and we provided this link to our students https://es.liveworksheets.com/worksheets/en/English_as_a_Second_Language_(ESL)/Listening_comprehension/Listening_comprehension_mk1221366zs. To cover each competence we proposed to do the oral part by zoom or meeting whether all together, dividing the class in small groups or one by one. And finally, for the grammar and vocabulary we sent our students some questionnaires to do and a “pass word” every time we finish a unit to review it. So, all of these things we did on Friday was all together whereas on Saturday the 1st of May in the morning we created small random groups on zoom to divide the work, so we did two small groups of 3 people each one. One group (María Camacho, Amparo Camacho and me) did the Twitter account and we thought some activities to do in it, while in the other small group (Elena Belver, Marina Abadía and Victoria Corredor) created a Youtube channel and thought some activities to do in it too.
The fisrt group, in which I was, created a Twitter account to communicate with our students and to make announcements. Moreover, we asked the students some questions. For instance, for mathematics we raised a problem and the students had to comment the correct answer and the method they had used. Secondly, to encourage synthesis skills we asked students to read an article and summarize it in a tweet. If anything can be difficult for a student, it is to express an idea or summary in just 280 characters. And with Twitter, it's the better way to do it.
In addition, to improve their discussion skills, we created a hashtag (#wediscussabout) and post a comment about a topic. Then, the student should participate in the hashtag commenting what they think about it. In this way, they will learn how to be respectful and give their opinions in a proper way. Also, after an explanation in class we can post a survey on twitter with some questions related to the unit we have seen in class. The students should select the option they think is the correct one. They will have a period of 24 hours to do it. This is a fast way for teachers to obtain results and to know how students are progressing, so we know in what aspects do we have to improve or if some students need more help.
Finally, we created a Twitter account of the whole class to use it as a diary. Every week, three students will be in charge of documenting everyday of the week, posting a tweet telling what we have done. In this way, all the students will have the information about the week. The hashtag will be #fantasticweek… every week they will have to use the number of it. For example the first week they will use the hashtag #fantasticweek1. So, it will be easier to find the information.
On the other small group, they created a Youtube channel and decided what they were going to upload on it. In Youtube, they decided to share videos about Natural Science, so they searched for videos that explain things like the photosynthesis of the plants, the parts of the volcanos, the different types of animals depending on their diet, the different types of animals and plants, the cell and its parts... , so we share with our students this link for them to see an example of how our videos would be: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0xQiogvUrM). Other video they shared was a very engaging one, about experimenting with water which has a set a good example of what we want our videos to be like, that is from the Youtube channel Guiainfantil https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnwAw86SIgA. Also they found a girl on Tik Tok that explain some tips very useful.Another page that was interesting wasSpotify where they had been inspired in how to approach the teaching of Natural Sciences by a few Podcasts that they found, so here you have the link: https://open.spotify.com/show/1Lb6AyTjz8BzFc1XgOtQPY?si=2e9SH3e-RVu0KWjhyss9KA&nd=1 .
So, once we had all the information collected, we started doing our PLE with the three apps we had used and everything we had created on these ones.
